CLASSIC ALBUMS LIVE
TOM PETTY'S DAMN THE TORPEDOES
PARTRIDGE HALL

Damn the Torpedoes is the third studio album released by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers on 20 October 1979. When an album (and concert) starts off with "Refugee," "Here Comes My Girl" and "Even The Losers"...you know it's going to be good!

Critical reception generally reflected the commercial success of the album. The original review in Rolling Stone raved that it was the "album we've all been waiting for – that is, if we were all Tom Petty fans, which we would be if there were any justice in the world." Village Voice critic Robert Christgau said, "This is a breakthrough for Petty because for the first time the Heartbreakers...are rocking as powerfully as he's writing.”

"Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers made music that still befuddles critics: they were too chill to be punk, and too famous to be underdogs. Petty was too unassuming a superstar to be Springsteen, and though he was equally gnomic and cantankerous, he was far too lyrically judicious to be Dylan." - Pitchfork Media

MORE INFORMATION

Founded in 2003 by Craig Martin, Classic Albums Live takes the greatest albums and recreates them live on stage - note for note, cut for cut, using the best musicians. "Think of it as a recital," says Martin, "these albums are historic and stand the test of time." Forgoing costumes and impersonations, Classic Albums Live has found success in concentrating solely on the music. "We don't dress up or wear any sort of costume. We just stand there and play. All of our energy is put into the music. We want the performance to sound exactly like the album," says Martin.

"We created something that endures and connects. These albums are sacred to people. We deliver exactly what we promote - 'note for note, cut for cut' accuracy."
