THE 26 LETTER DANCE
Mon 27 Jan 2020 | 10am + 12:15pm
Recommended for JK to Grade 5
Runs approx 60 mins + 10 min Q&A
The interactive dancing alphabet primer is a playful cultural experience that promotes literacy. The memorable multidisciplinary performance features the alphabet from A to Z as the main characters. The performers welcome student interaction as they discover how lively letters embody words through dance, costume, lights and a colourful kaleidoscope of theatre spectacle.
The show gets underway with ‘A’ and goes on a journey to ‘Z’. Along the way letters of the alphabet are linked to words, meanings, and emotions. Choreographer Hélène Langevin says, “A picture is worth a thousand words and dance is worth a thousand pictures.” Her contemporary choreography, linking a word to the letters presented, invites children to take part in the experience of learning. The extraordinary dance performance invites young audiences to engage in the various tableaux that punctuate the piece and promote literacy skills.
