“We hope the second annual Holiday Market in partnership with our great friends at the PAC will become a fantastic addition to treasured holiday traditions in Niagara,” shares Emily Kovacs, Executive Director at the Niagara Folk Arts Multicultural Centre. “Please join us, and shop to support newcomer entrepreneurs!”

The Niagara Folk Arts Multicultural Centre offers essential programs to welcome and support Newcomers and Niagara’s Immigrant community, including skills training and new business supports. The Holiday Newcomer Market aims to welcome Newcomers and provide a welcoming place for our community to learn more about Niagara’s diverse entrepreneurial community and to pick up a few treasures for the holiday season.

“We are proud to partner with our friends at Folk Arts to host accessible opportunities for and with our community to celebrate our diverse traditions and cultures here in Niagara,” shares Colleen A. Smith, CAO for the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre. “I’m personally looking forward to doing some of my holiday shopping at the market and learning about Newcomer businesses of our community.”

The market will feature a number of handmade products, culinary treats and exciting cultural displays, all designed to learn more about the thriving new Canadian businesses in Niagara. Be sure to bring cash to support these incredible vendors.

The Market has been paired with a special performance of Celebrate! Holidays of the Global Village with Chris McKhool at 7pm in Partridge Hall. This Pay-What-You-Can (including FREE) concert celebrates the songs of the holidays heard around the world and gives a glimpse into the different cultures, customs, celebrations and festivities that make up the multicultural mosaic of Canada.  Chris will be joined by special guests including Coast Tsimshian First Nations Elder Shannon Thunderbird, Sultans of String, Maryem & Ernie Tollar, Aviva Chernick, Juan Carlos Medrano and more. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the start of the holiday season with friends, family and colleagues.

Of note, December 10th marks the International Day to commemorate the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948. The Niagara Folk Arts Community Connections team will also be on site to host an activity to learn more about this significant day and explore ways we can advocate for human rights.
